Which equipment is recommended?
The smart ED4 is already very well equipped by the factory, much better than its gasoline colleagues. As standard, electric windows, air conditioning, power steering, instant pre-air conditioning and also a 3 years free App access. (Can then be extended for 19 € per year) It also has electrical assistants such as ESP, ABS, an active brake assistant and a crosswind assistant. Sweetened is all this in addition to the standard cruise control and Bluetooth enabled radio and regen (-> regenerative breaking).
You can also choose between a 110V-220V charging cable or a charging cable for public charging stations. Both can be obtained from third parties, but money can not really be saved.
This equipment is needed in my optionion:
- First of all, of course, is the 22kW charger*, which allows the smart to be recharged from 10% to 80% in just half an hour. It can't be retrofitted.
- At least the Passion line, (in the USA: it's called Pure) only from this one has the time-based pre conditioning as the radar based recuperation and the colored display in the speedometer. In addition, come with the Passion facilities u.a. additional storage options added.
- The winter package, this brings improved insulation with and the seat, as steering wheel heating. Especially in winter, the better insulation is a great advantage, with it the decreases in range by the heating isn't that noticeable.
If you don't like the radar based recuperation and rather would like to one pedal drive, just turn the radar based recuperation off at the onboard computers settings. More about it can be found here in the FAQ. (What is radar based regen?)
*The 22kW-charger is only available in Europe.
Equipment packages before and after the facelift
The options between the pre-facelift and the facelift models are almost identical. The only additions are the optional full-LED headlights and the revised media system. This supports up to the facelift only Android Auto, smart EQ with the facelift are also Apple CarPlay capable.
There are only differences in the equipment packages, in the way in which you book different things individually or in a package. Roughly speaking, there are three different sized equipment packages since the facelift, before that, everything was still individual and quite confusing.
How you know, if you are facing a smart with 22kW charger, you can learn in the FAQ:
There is also a large selection of rims and colors, which I will not go into in detail here. Just play around in the smart configurator and try out what you like.
