Apple CarPlay becomes wireless - but only in new ordered cars ?!

  • It took now much longer than announced, but now it is finally foreseeable that Apple CarPlay will also work wirelessly. Contrary to previous statements, but only for new orders?

Does anyone know anything about it?

Since the GUI of the Apple CarPlay Navi still makes a rather unfinished impression, I firmly assumed an update.

  • You would first have to replace your old media system with the one they have since the Ende of 2020. But I'm sure some people are going to do that here in Germany. So I'll keep you updated on how that works, when the first ones have done that. :)

  • Just asked my dealer about it again:

"I contacted the responsible product manager again.

    The following came back:

    Hello Mr ---,

According to the information from our technical workshop support, there will be the option of a software update.

For this, I would recommend creating a TIPS case for the respective vehicle via the workshop, with the request to check it on the basis of the VIN. "

The first part I think I understand. My original equipment may ask me to update at some point in the future.

What does a TIPS case mean, and how to do?

If it’s the Smart EQ app that needs to be updated it won’t work for me as the app is not available or functioning in Canada.

  • TIPS is a Damiler internal system for the workshops. They can there open cases and check for feedback. It's a bit like a Daimler internat forum for qorkshops. So to open a case you'll need a workshop to do that for you.

The smart EQ app has nothingto do with that, so no worrys. The connection between CarPlay and your iPhone is established with wireles nettwork from the car itselfe.

  • I fear the 2018 won't get the update. You've only got the Android Auto unite installed. I assume you would have to install the Apple CarPlay unite, the started installing in late 2020.
